Prayer Shawl Ministry sends warmth, love and comfort!
Do you know someone who could use a tangible piece of GOD? Something to remind them that someone cares for them during difficult times. FUMC launched a PRAYER SHAWL ministry last fall. This was an idea that I kicked around for a couple of years, then God urged me harder to listen to His plan.

Members of the congregation create the shawls (usually crochet or knit). The shawls are blessed during a worship service and then are ready to go out into the world. This project is very dear to me; the first prayer shawl was presented October 2010 to my friend Connie Diggs. Connie has taken her prayer shawl to chemo treatments and she’s used it to wrap up in at home as she recovers from those treatments. Connie has shared that especially the first time she cuddled in her shawl; she experienced an overwhelming feeling of peace and could sense being held in God’s arms, protected and safe. Her battle with cancer has recently escalated … I’m so glad she has something to hold onto when she needs comfort.
How can YOU get involved? We need folks to create the shawls; you could also provide funding for yarn. Perhaps you noticed the

wonderful shawls on the altar a couple Sundays ago, they were created by Wanda Goodspeed. We are so grateful to Wanda for her dedication to this ministry. Suzie White, scrap booker extraordinaire, has created beautiful cards to be attached to the prayer shawls before they go out. The easiest way to participate … let us know someone who would benefit from a prayer shawl; there is no set criteria for who could use a boost. Illness, heartache, job loss; as well as joys of marriage and new babies, are all excellent opportunities to share God’s love. If you would like to deliver the shawl yourself, we just ask for the name of the recipient. If you prefer, Pastor Scott or someone from the church would be happy to make delivery.
There will be a short get together to discuss future plans for the Prayer Shawl Ministry, Sunday, July 10th, immediately following second service – in the sanctuary. All are welcome. Please call Kathi Ridenour, 582-8773, if you have any questions or suggestions.
